New Features and Improvements in simplex Media Server
Over the past few months, we’ve been hard at work upgrading our core infrastructure and introducing geo-redundancy to our file storage systems. While this release does not include many user-facing features, we are excited to announce several significant updates to the simplex Media Server (SMS).
Geo-Blocking:
Our new Geo Blocking feature allows you to control access to your videos based on geographic location. You can now configure access to your content, allowing or blocking specific countries. For example, you can set the Geo Blocking module to permit access only from Switzerland and Singapore while restricting access from all other countries.
Geo Blocking is available as an add-on module for all Live and On-Demand SMS users.

File Management and Storage:
We have overhauled our file management and storage systems. With this upgrade, we are introducing geo-redundant file storage for all customers hosted by us. All files are now stored simultaneously in our Geneva and Zurich data centres, ensuring greater reliability and data security. Additionally, backups are now versioned, and older versions of files are stored for a 30-day period, providing an extra layer of protection and recovery options.
TLS Support:
With the migration of all servers to a new operating system, we now support only TLS versions 1.3 and 1.2. Older TLS versions have been disabled to enhance security.
Additional Enhancements:
- We have discontinued simplex PRO, now fully replaced by our powerful web-based tools: simplex Studio for live productions and simplex Editor for On-Demand video editing.
- The structure of our embedded media players has been improved for better performance and user experience.
- The player now supports playback speed controls.
Bug Fixes:
- On-Demand videos with timecode channels are now encoded without extra media streams.
- Fixed an issue that sometimes interrupted the upload of very large video files.
- Re-published videos now load poster frames immediately, without needing a page reload.
- The status of the “Manage Credits Manually” toggle now displays correctly.
- Fixed missing translations in the Simplex UI and Editor that occurred after an update.
- The “please wait” message now appears after registration for Live events with a registration form, replacing the loading wheel.
